THE WOODMAN, WOODMANSTERNE STREET

THE WOODMAN, WOODMANSTERNE STREET, WOODMANSTERNE, c1910

The Woodman Pub, seen here on the left, was built for a Henry Wedd as an annex to The Manor House (in Rectory Lane next to St Peter's Church) for his guests back in the late 1800's, long before it became the village pub.

He was also a Church Warden at St Peter's Church and a benefactor, having given Woodmansterne village both the Cricket Ground behind the pub, and the Recreation Ground in front !

He also served on the Croydon Board of Guardians (the successor to the Poor Law).

Henry and Lillie Wedd also had a town house in Bayswater.
