Garratts Lodge, Banstead, in 1908
This is a postcard dated 1908 of Garratts Lodge, on the junction of Holly Lane and Garratts Lane, Banstead. It’s one of two Lodges (both still standing) at the end of long drives that led to Garratts Hall, a substantial house that stood in 23 acres of land owned by the Lambert family, one of the eminent names in Banstead’s history. It was demolished in 1934.
The other Lodge is to the west, on the junction of Shrubland Road with Garratts Lane.

I used to work at Little Garratts stables. Even in the 1960s the coach house floor was still brick paved. It had been turned into 2 loose boxes and 7 stalls but you could still see how once it would have held many carriages. A staircase led to the hay loft which I believe was once used as staff accommodation.
