Banstead Village

The Incumbent Priest of St Peter's Church in 1945 was the Rev Charles Fiske, so it's a reasonable assumption that he's the clergyman in the back row.

The Pantomimes I performed on that stage in the 1950s, in the old village hall, with half the village children, bring back happy memories.

Occasionally we were able to watch silent movies in the village hall, no colour, only monochrome ie B & W or....sometimes sepia. The projectionist was accompanied by an able pianist, who played the hall piano, which was only just in tune, the music and tempo to suit the film, mostly comedies e.g. Charlie Chaplin.

As kids, we enjoyed every evening event; a welcome relief from hearing about WW2!
Admission, only a very modest specie.

The village hall was used for many functions; I recall an afternoon children's fancy dress party.

In the mid/late 1950s, I sometimes joined Tim Healing's Jazzmen for band practice on Wednesday
evenings. Tim (trumpet) lived in Lakers Rise, and Gus Hyatt (banjo) in Manor Way.
Other members of the band did not live in Woodmansterne.
