Suffragette at Burgh HeathThe photo shows No.1 and No.2 Bealles Cottages, Burgh Heath, and my grandmother, Mrs.Elizabeth Brockway (centre), who lived at No.2. One of the other ladies is her neighbour, Mrs. Costello, and the other person I'm guessing is Mrs. Costello's sister. Elizabeth Brockway was a suffragette and a friend of Emmeline Pankhurst. The photo was taken in the late '40s.

If you need any more information about life in Burgh Heath from 1950 to 1966 do ask. I loved that little village and the people who lived there.

The stairs were hidden behind a door in the front room. I loved their cottage with the front door in the front room and an ally running at the back giving access to all the cottages and to the outhouse and back door. Our dogs used to visit them each night for a saucer of tea and a biscuit. We lived two minutes away from them in the Racing Stables, Heath House, with my grandparents pub the Sheepshearers Arms in between us.
