Curry Centre 169, Banstead High Street
Hi,
I was wondering if there are any photos of the parade of shops opposite the police station from (167-175 High St) or from Buff Avenue perspective?
Our family restaurant, Curry Centre has been located at 169 High Street since 1969 and it would be great to see/know of past history!

Curry Centre
Lava Kitchen
The van shows the livery of Tonge's Stores of Belmont and Banstead with a registration plate of PK5592. This indicates it was a Surrey-registered van issued from May 1928 to May 1929, so I have estimated the date to be approximately 1930.
Prior to this photograph, the site consisted of land surrounding Buff House.

Hello Raj - I have looked at my files on what shops have been on the High Street and before your family arrived i have these adverts showing that 169 was a shoe repairers and leather shop called R.Pengilly & Co.

I remember the shoe repair shop and the change of business to the Indian Restaurant.
I vividly remember that the chicken curry was served with bones.... to order chicken curry off the bone was extra...
The restaurant was very popular and possibly the first Asian restaurant to be established on the High Street.
