Children playing in Hatch Gardens Tadworth

Outside my old home 110 Hatch Gardens taken by my father. Ron Hills.
If you look closely you will see the bike and carts are all joined together with some rope, probably washing line.

Simple pleasures. . . what a lovely street capture. When I was at school in the 1950s, several of my friends lived in Hatch Gardens, so I knew the place well – being part of the new Preston Hawe Estate it seemed very modern. Many other kids lived in the nearby roads as well: Preston Lane, Marbles Way, Cheam Close, Merefield Gardens and so-on.
My lifetime friend was Martin Maclean at 98 Hatch Gardens (he had a younger brother, Stewart). A professional singer named Andy Cole also lived a few doors away. He had a strong tenor voice and became quite well-known because of his appearances on an early ITV programme called ‘The Song Parade’. Then, later, he regularly appeared in the BBC's 'Black and White Minstrel Show' as well as several West End musicals.
