Banstead Village

This picture brings back fond memories of yesteryear. On the right of the picture there used to be a delightful cottage occupied by the local vet and on the left of the picture was a garage, Watkins I believe. It stood next to Lancefield's, the garden shop.

Not Watkins garage, which was at the western end of the village, but French and Foxwell.
The first shop is Boots, next to the school warning sign and the European Lime tree.

French and Foxwell always put up a nice big Christmas tree in their centre forecourt in the 70s.

Wasn't the garage Rose Autos or some name like that by the 70s? French and Foxwell had a garage at Burgh Heath just north of Robert's Stores

Next door to Boots was a paper shop (I did a paper round from here).They also sold toys. Next to the paper shop, on the corner by the ally, was a fish-mongers
Down the ally was a shed where bikes were repaired and second-hand bikes sold.
In the next parade of shops was a shop that sold sherbet.

I thought the garage was Brew Brothers. The paper shop was Gustersons I believe.

Also a florists , Lancefields was near the garage. A few years later maybe.

The paper shop that also sold Matchbox toys was Dunmore in the very late 40's and very early 50's.

Lancefields was next to the garage. After French and Foxwell, the garage became Rose Autos and later Brew Brothers as far as I can recall now.

At one time, at least up to 1954, WH Smiths was nearby, possibly next to Lancefields or was it there before Lancefields.
