The Woodman Pub was built for a Henry Wedd in the late 1800's as an annex to The Manor House (next to St Peter's Church) for his guests back in the late 1800's, long before it became the village pub.
He was also a Church Warden at St Peter's and a benefactor, having given Woodmansterne village both the Cricket Ground, and the Recreation Ground !
He also served on the Croydon Board of Guardians (the successor to the Poor Law).
Henry and Lillie Wedd also had a town house in Bayswater.
